Fear Revealed—in Your Dreams

One of my dream interpretation mentors, John Paul Jackson, instructs: "What you fear, you empower. What you focus on, you make room for.” This concept speaks of how susceptible we humans are in allowing life’s difficulties to swallow up our optimism and hope.

We often project our ‘tough guy’ image or wear the fake smiley face among our peers, despite inner terrors that make us want to hide from the world.
Our worries appear frequently in our dreams, appropriately called ‘Fear dreams’. The purpose of these dreams is to identify fear in us so that we will face that fear and make changes so we are not paralyzed.

Some common examples:

o Fearful mothers have nightmares about something harming their babies (read more about nightmares).

o We need to give a speech in real life and we dream the night before that we forget our notes, nothing goes right, and we fail to wear clothing that day.

o We dream that someone breaks into our home, and we try to dial 911 but in our panic, we keep misdialing and never connect—we are afraid nobody will help us.

I visited with a teenage girl recently who dreamed every night that her boyfriend was killed in a car wreck. I asked if she was afraid of that. Her answer: ‘VERY—I am terrified about him and my family dying—and leaving me ALONE.” Fear of abandonment was choking out life.

Fear dreams are often recurring. If you see a scary theme surfacing in your dreams, you may need to consider examining a persistent fear issue. Once you address the fear, you will stop having the dreams.

It takes great courage to recognize the fear and face it, but freedom and peace are the desired result. Take a minute to list three of your known fears or anxieties—decide to release them into Divine custody, and picture how you will journey forward in faith.

What you fear, you empower. What you focus on, you make room for. What you 'stew' about may come to pass.

What are you making room for in your life today?

The Best Dream is the One You Can’t Remember!

Hello all,

I noticed there are a few of you out there who feel they don't have dreams and a couple who don't know if they have dreams.

I found a blog posting by Doug Addison that reveals some insight about dreams that are not remembered.

Doug encourages people on his blog to share this posting with others so here you go.

Understanding Dreams

The Best Dream is the One You Can’t Remember!

Maybe you have heard me say, “The best dream you can ever have is a dream you know you had but can’t remember the details of!”

Job 33:14–17 NKJV “For God may speak in one way, or in another, yet man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, while slumbering on their beds, then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction. In order to turn man from his deed, and conceal pride from man.”

God will often give us revelation and direction for our life through a dream and seal it away from our memory. Later you may walk into a situation and have a feeling you have been there before. Some people call this déjà vu. I believe that it was God giving us direction in a dream that we cannot remember and when we are living it out later we get that strange feeling that we have experienced this before.

God speaks to us all the time, sometimes through dreams. Though not all dreams are from God, we can receive instructions and guidance through dreams that is essential for our purpose and our destiny. Had He spoken to us more clearly or directly then we would have a higher responsibility for fulfilling what He wants us to do. By sealing it in a dream it can bypass our natural mind and even keep us from being prideful and from doing things in our own strength instead of His.

Another example of how God can use a dream is when you actually remember the dream but He seals away the meaning of it. We can have a dream from God that seems very significant but we do not understand the interpretation or how it applies to our life. This happened in the life of Joseph in the Old Testament. In Genesis 37, Joseph receives two powerful dreams about his destiny. The dreams indicate that his brothers and their parents will all bow down and serve Joseph. Even his father, Jacob, did not understand the meaning of this dream. The result was that Joseph was sold by his brothers and ends up a slave in Egypt. Later, in Genesis 41, God turned Joseph’s mishaps into a huge blessing that helped save the entire world from a famine.

Maybe you have wondered, how did my life end up the way it is? Oftentimes, like Joseph, we end up far from where we started and it may seem that the promises and dreams that God gave us will not come to pass. Just this year, I am seeing dreams and prophetic words in my life beginning to unfold that were given to me over twenty years ago. Had God revealed all the details ahead of time I probably would have tried to make things happen before His timing. God is faithful and we can trust Him as a loving father. Hold on to your dreams and also be open to the element of God surprising you with good things from Heaven.

Dreams to Prompt Prayer

Dreams to Prompt Prayer

I believe every dream we receive potentially initiates a conversation with God. I love waking up in the mornings, pondering my dreams, journaling or sketching them, and talking to God about them. Our ‘conversation’ is always fresh and relevant, never boring or repetitive.

Every dream is given as an invitation to go deeper with God. In the process, we get to know him better and we receive much needed daily encouragement.

Specifically, though, many dreams are given to launch us into prayer regarding a particular person or situation. God’s heart desires to use us to ask for change, wisdom or protection!

Prayer dreams can take many forms:

o If you are a leader, you may receive dreams about your followers—possible pitfalls as well as strengths within your organization

o Dreams generally reveal information in your sphere of influence, but sometimes on a grander scale (your family or national politics)

o You often wake up heavy with emotion for someone. You may see their face or name in your mind—during the day or night

o You are flying around surveilling random scenes

o If you are not the ‘main character’ of a dream, but primarily observing, chances are good the dream is not about you, but is showing you information you need to know and pray about

o Dreams can show situations in present, past or future

Example: my son is a late-night traveling musician, and when he is in transit, I will often dream about him being in a potential car wreck and wake up to pray for his safety. Many times, the next day, he reports hitting an ice slick or a deer at the exact time I was praying—and he was protected in those rough roadside ditches.

If we value our dreams and spend more time interacting with the Dream Giver about them, imagine how our lives might change!
